1 2

florida lottery

Google Maps Street View Technologies does a good job capturing the panoramic view of thousands of streets across the world. Most of the streets covered are those driven by car. Areas not accessible by car, like pedestrian areas, narrow streets and alleys are sometimes covered by Google Trikes or snowmobiles.

Since 2008, the technology has pretty much captured it all, including the following 10 things:

1. Public Urination:

There are plenty of pics of men urinating in public. In fact one man in France took Google to court in February of 2012 over a photo it published online through a street view application showing him urinating in his backyard. He believed that he was a laughing stock of his village as a result. His lawyer argued that everyone has a right to their own secrecy.

2. Marriage Proposal:

Some go to extremes to propose like one man who proposed in a TV commercial. Rand wanted to propose to his girlfriend Geraldine in a unique and romantic way. So he created his own website with knowledge of search engine optimization. His idea came to fruition in2006 and the order to buy some ad space during 2007 NFL. Then there was Michael Weiss-Malik, who planned ahead of time and stood at the side of the road with many others as Street View pictures were being updated. There are many other intentional and non-intentional cases.

3. Capsized Cruise Liner:

When a typhoon slams into a cruise liner, it usually capsizes. The cruise/hotel was docked in South Korea when it was hit by 135 mph winds of typhoon Maemi in 2003. All captured on Google earth.

4. Pants down low:

A guy was pictured sitting at the side of a road with his pants down. It was done in broad daylight on High Street, Langholm, U.K.

5. Dumped in a trunk:

A man was pictured in Mannheim, Germany, sitting naked in his trunk and on his driveway.. Who ever thought that Hangover 3 was being filmed in Germany? Anyone? Why naked for all the neighbours to see?

Top 10 Google’s Killer Competitors

1 2

In 2008 & 2009, Google only listed just two major competitors – Microsoft and Yahoo. And now in 2010, Google lists 10 major competitors starting from Microsoft, Yahoo on top of the list. This is not surprising, BUT the surprise is that, Apple actually was not listed on the chart. I’ve compiled a list of competitors that are giving Google a kick and push to be more innovative and much more competitive.  Google is sitting in hot water, especially after it was charged for allowing advertisers to run scams on their search engine.

1. Facebook

Facebook and Google are two of the fastest growing and largest companies on the internet, and so far Facebook’s popularity has really helped Google to see an increased earnings share. Facebook is complementary and positive for Google so far, but that could change if /when social media such as FaceBook finds a business model and attract ad dollars from other online media.

On January 15, 2013, Facebook Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a feature to help its users search for people and places within the social network. This is the company’s first major attempt at a product launch since its May 2012 initial public offering.

The new feature – called the “graph search” refers to Facebook’s growing content, data and membership. The “social graph” – will allow users to sort through pictures, people, places and members’ interests to find the answers to their queries.

2. Cuil

Cui is a search engine developed by a team of ex-Googlers and other top notch people from institutions such as IBM and Altavista. Cuil which is said to be a Google killer was launched on 28th July, 2008 and is said to be the world’s largest search engine, indexing ten times as many pages as Microsoft and three times as many pages as Google.

3. Twitter

Twitter is also considered to be a Google killer, but there are just too many “bugs” to get worked out for this to be a Google killer, at least in the short term. However it is a great tool for SEO but is not worth anything without Google.

More and more companies are including Twitter strategy in their online marketing and SEO campaigns. Tweets allow companies to send marketing messages to an audience that is already interested in their products or services, so the chances are good that followers will take advantage of the sale or special offer. Some companies — especially retail stores — now offer deals specifically for their Twitter followers. Offering a deal on Twitter allows the company to track how many people take advantage of the offer.

Twitter is also good at creatinf a way for companies to interact with their fans and customers. Many companies are also actively engaging their customers with questions, polls and other conversation starters via tweets. This intimate way of communicating helps build brand loyalty and identity because customers feel closer to their favorite brands when they can ‘talk’ directly to them.

4. Yahoo

Yahoo is seen rolling out a series of changes to their search technology. On the usability side, this search engine helps users to perform the search query while educating them for getting relevant results. As far as the findability side is concerned, Yahoo is now offering Flickr integration, embedded video and other universal search result features which according to Yahoo’s Tim Mayer is the most significant change Yahoo has made to their search business.

5. Wolfram Alpha

It is in everyone’s minds whether Wolfram Alpha will supplant Google? Not in the short term. Google is synonymous to search, as Xerox is for copying. Wolfram appears to be a largely scientific endeavor, but with the right kind of innovation, promotion and funding, it could find an audience in the near future.

Top 10 Technology Easter Eggs from Apple / Google

1 2

Technology Easter eggs are included in computer programs, websites, CDs, etc and are basically hidden messages or jokes. Let us look at some of these created by Google and Apple.

1. Recursion

Everybody is aware of the fact that if you type in a wrong spelling in the Google search engine, it will give you the right one with the help of the “did you mean” feature. However, if you type in this particular word with the correct spelling, Google will continuously suggest the exact same spelling again and again till you realize that the joke is on you!

2. Talk to a Martian

With the help of a certain application created by Google Earth 5, users were told that they could speak to Martians on Mars by entering “Meliza” in the search engine. While you will chat with something, it will not be a Martian but Eliza- an application with artificial intelligence. Eliza is not very interesting to speak to.

3. The Meaning of Life

If you are to enter the following phrase- “answer to life, the universe and everything” in the search engine, the first result you will see is “42” and a small calculator will be made next to it. There are other phrases that will confuse you just the same and probably make the engineers laugh. These include “once in a blue moon” which will give “1.16699016 × 10-8 hertz” as the answer and “number of horns on a unicorn” will give “1” as the answer.

4. Ascii Art

ASCII Art is a term used to describe any image that is created with the help of keyboard characters. Even though this style is quite obsolete, it is still as popular. Google engineers are quite fond of this art as the doodle alters when the phrase is searched for.

5. Swim the Atlantic

When Google Maps were new and somebody was to ask for directions between locations and areas that had water bodies in between them, the user would be asked to travel a bit and then ‘start swimming for 3,500 miles’. This Easter egg has been removed.
