Top 10 Ways Human Nature Contrasts With Politically Correct Morals

1 2

While it is true that the human nature represents a compilation of feelings, thoughts and characteristics all humans share, it is equally correct that accurately defining all of the above has been the oldest and most crucial quest of the Western philosophy. Even though thinkers have provided various answers to these fundamental questions, one thing remains constant, namely that human nature primes over the sum of norms established in different cultures and societies.

Interestingly enough, instead of going hand in hand, the social norms and our way of being are conflicting quite often. In fact, it is safe to state that at one point or another in your life you will come to agree with Alexander Woolcott’s famous quote “all the things I really like to do are either immoral, illegal or fattening”. In the following article we will explore the most common misconceptions about human nature people believe today.

1. The eternal fascination with the “Barbie look”

Barbie lookThe appeal of the long, beautiful hair, blue eyes, a wasp waist and big breasts has not really emerged with Marilyn Monroe and in fact, it dates from approximately two millennia ago. The answer to this one is actually quite simply: women who boast these characteristics are perceived as younger, healthier and hence, they promote reproduction and the survival of the specie. However, ironically these things are not applicable in the modern society, where wigs, contact lens and the magic of cosmetic surgery is all it takes to reach the ideal female beauty.

2. We’re genetically programmed for polygamy

polygamyAccording to anthropologists, the simple fact that men are taller than women is a criterion that proves humans are essentially programmed for polygamy. Essentially, the male fitness factor plays a great role in finding more mating opportunities. Furthermore, a tall and strong man gives women a sense of financial and social security, sometimes to the point where women prefer to share the wealth of a single man than mate with a poor one. While in certain parts of the globe polygamy is still practiced, in Western society and industrialized countries this no longer applies because for modern man wealth is more consistent across the board, at least by comparison with their ancestors.

3. Couples who have at least one son are less likely to end up in divorce

Couple with a sonIn spite of the fact that the modern world promotes gender equality, apparently the men’s instinct to do anything in their power to ensure the continuation of the wealth, name and status is still lingering in the subconscious. While all the things a man has to offer can be inherited by his son, there is very little he can do to maintain his daughter’s beauty and youthfulness. It is true that this behavior is mostly noticeable in affluent families, but sociologists suggest that statistically couples who have sons are less likely to end up in divorce.

4. The middle-life crisis

middle-life crisisSome call the middle-life crisis a myth and others are living it, or they think they do especially since they invested all their savings in a brand new car and a luxury home near the beach. This occurrence is linked to women reaching menopause. To put it simply, when the husband realizes that the reproduction cycle of his wife is close to an end, his anxiety levels will go through the roof and he will start spending a lot of cash in a subconscious attempt to attract younger women.

5. Male politicians are prone to risk everything for an affair

Male politiciansGranted, in the Western civilization monogamy reigned supreme, especially in times when the Roman Catholic Church held most of the power. On the other hand, that didn’t stop any wealthy man with a high status from having concubines, mistresses or female slaves for that matter. If you are curious as to why a male politician would risk it all, the answer might surprise you: some men strive for more power in order to expand their mating options.

Top 10 Human Traffickers

1 2

Human Trafficking is a major issue in today’s globalizing world. It is part of organized crimes committed on almost every continent. Here are the top 10 human trafficking countries.

This list is assessed in accordance with the United States’ 3 tier system:

Tier 1: Countries fully compliant

Tier 2: Countries Not Fully Compliant/Making Effort

Tier 2 Watch List: Countries Not Fully Compliant/Making Effort/Not Enough Done

Tier 3: Countries not Fully Compliant/Not making effort

1. Burma (Tier 3):

Burma is a major source and transit country for victims of human trafficking. Burmese Women (especially Karens) are forced into prostitution in countries such as China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and India. Children are furthermore being obliged to beg and to work. The lack of job opportunities and the desire for higher income is the major push for the Burmese to migrate. The military Junta are not co-operative as they use children for the military themselves. The Burmese Junta in 2006 claims to have rigorously prosecuted 400 traffickers, but the problem has not been alleviated.

2. Somalia (Special Case):

The situation in Somalia is out of control. There is no central government in Somalia to take care of the issues of human trafficking. Human Trafficking is internal and done within self-declared Somali tribes. Poor economic conditions have forced many families to also give up their children. Those who are in displaced camps are the most vulnerable as they are willing to move to other countries. This is when human traffickers take advantage of them in the worst case scenarios.

3. Turkmenistan (Tier 3):

Turkmenistan is a major source of human trafficking and forced labour. Many men and women are subjected to forced labour and prostitution in Turkey, Russia and the United Kingdom. Turkmenistan is not doing its part to enforce anti-trafficking laws and is not meeting minimum standards of eliminating human trafficking. They have done little to none to protect and prevent victims and to prosecute traffickers.

4. North Korea (Tier 3):

The conditions in North Korea are beyond severe and are dire. North Korean women and children flee to China where they are forced into prostitution and involuntarily labour. Many of them have no choice since their status is not recognized. China has not helped with the situation. They return most of the victims back to North Korea, where they are faced with execution. North Korea, as we all all know it, is the most repressive regime.

5. Venezuela (Tier 3):

Venezuela is a source, transit and destination country for human traffickers. Many women and children are taken from poor and rural homes to urban areas where they are forced to prostitute. Many victims are recruited through false job hopes and offers from strangers. The government in Venezuela has done little to help. Although they have a law which bans trafficking, it has not set up shelters and relies on NGOs for help. Given the political instability in the country, a prevention plan is not in place.

3. The Marshall Islands Experiment

Marshall Islands residents were forcefully exposed to radioactive substances in 1954. Over the years, several results were seen- women went through miscarriages, stunted growth was noticed in children and some developed thyroid cancer.

4. The CIA Experiment

This project was carried out by the CIA during the 1950s. Drugs like LSD were surreptitiously given to employees, prostitutes, those who suffered from mental problems and the general public. The motive here was to keep a track of their reactions to the drug.

5. The Removal of Homosexuality

Homosexual soldiers were forced to go through sex-change operations by the army in South Africa. Many of them were given electric shocks and subjected to chemical castration. The aim was to ‘remove homosexuality’ from the army.
