Top 10 Inappropriate/Under Achieving Eurovision Songs of 2011

1 2

Although Eurovision Songs Contest brought out some of the best songs, it included songs which had no meaning or place at Eurovision. As such here are the Top 10 Inappropriate/Underachieving Eurovision songs of 2011.

1. Austria: “The Secret of Love”

Although her video and performance is stunning, the lyrics to Nadine Beiler’s song “The Secret of Love” is not. It is more appropriate for a Disney song or movie. The message also lacks meaning and purpose.

2. Estonia: “Rockefeller Street”

Getter Jaani does an excellent job performing the song in Eurovision Songs Contest of 2011. The song, however, sings about New York and the fictional Rockefeller Street. New York as we all know it is not in Europe and lacks belonging inside a European contest.

3. Georgia: “One More Day”

In the song, Eldrine lacks vocals and dance moves. She mostly resorts to screaming and the voice is not in tune with the music. When singing rock style she would sing in one tone, even though the beat changes.

4. Armenia: “Boom Boom”

Although Emmy put on a satisfactory performance, the song lacked adult vulgar language. The Boom Boom song sounded as if it was for children, using childish language, such as “Chacalaca.” It should also be noted that Emmy was singing a basic song which was not in tuned with the music in the background.

5. Germany: “Taken by Stranger”

This song lacked meaningful purpose. It still is not clear why Lena was wondering mysteriously as she was singing the song or how the music reflected the words. The beat was also dull and one should note the lack of energy there was to the performance. One thing clear is that she got into the finals because she was representing a country that was part of the “Big 4”.

Top 10 Rock Songs

1 2

Selecting the top ten rock songs can be as tough as picking the best stones out of a heap of diamonds. All aspects of the song have to be taken into consideration, the lyrics, the music, the audio sound, the video presentation and the actual sales of the song. The category rock is also hard to define. Rock and Metal almost border on each other. The rhythms in rock have changed over the years. It is a mixture of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country and traces of jazz. Two factors definitely distinguish this genre of music, the singers are white and the electric guitar is used to an overbearing extent, so much so that it can be bone jarring. There may be many other songs, personal favorites of selectors but these ten cannot be ever ignored. The modern version of Rock can be and has been classified under Alternative Rock. Taking all this into consideration these are the all time favorites in Rock:-

1. Pink Floyd – Money

This is a very popular song from the high selling Pink Floyd album Dark Side of the Moon. The  released in 1973. The distinctive sound of the song depends on the clever splicing of several different sounds into one track. The different sounds are of coins clinking, cash registers ringing, currency notes being torn and the clear hard sounds of the guitar. This was one of the songs which made the album such a super hit.

2. Guns n Roses – November Rain

This song written by Axl Rose who is also the lead singer of the band Guns n Roses was released in 1992. It is a very long song with lengthy orchestral arrangements. The ending guitar solo by Slash is considered one of the best amongst guitar solos in a song. The popular video of the song shows Axl getting married to his girl friend before a storm ruins the wedding.

3. The Eagles – Hotel California

The authenticity of this ranking cannot be disputed by anyone in the world on a top ten chart. There might be demands of placing it at number one. The song was released in1977 and was written by Don Henley, Don Felder and Glenn Frey. The song sold a million copies within three months of its release. The Eagles also won the album of the year Grammy in 1978. The song’s solo is ranked number eight.

4. Credence Clearwater Revival – Have you ever Seen the Rain

Have you seen the rain was released in 1971 and was written by John Fogerty for the band Credence Clearwater Revival.  It records the end of personal idealism of the band a nostalgia for the good times that do not last too long. The song keeps getting revived and replayed in movies and televisions shows. It is from the album Pendulum.

5. Coldplay – Viva la Vida

This is an example of alternative rock and the British invasion of the American Rock scene. Viva la Vida is the collective writing effort of the entire band of Cold Play. The song was released in 2008 and won the Grammy for the Song of the year in 2009. It was a hit in both the UK and the USA. It is one of the few songs which have had 4 million paid downloads. Top 10 Songwriters Of The 20th Century

1 2

For a songwriter to make it to the top ten lists he /she should have composed songs which have stood the test of time. They should be sung by many singers and the songs should have become a part of our musical history. The purposes of this list we are only considering the songwriters who gave us popular rock and roll or country or pop music.

1. Bob Dylan:

He towers over everyone else with his musical genius. He gave us words which embodied the pathos and angst of his generation and where the listeners identified themselves with the feelings and emotions which were a part of the song. He is the most influential songwriter of his times and all of us are familiar with his compositions such as The Times they are a-changing and Blowing in the Wind.

2. Lennon/McCartney:

The amazing music that the Beatles gave us is the result of songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Music was never the same again after they burst on the scene and each song of theirs seems to be better than the last. Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, the entire album of Sgt. Pepper’s  Lonely Hearts Club, the list just goes on and on. After the group broke up Lennon and McCartney continued to compose songs individually. Lennon’s genius was cut short by his murder but McCartney continues to write songs even today.

3. David Bowie:

A major figure for over 50 years in the field of rock music, David Bowie has not only been a singer, songwriter but also a record producer. The intellectual depth of his work sets him apart from the general run of the mill songwriters and he has been nominated among the Top 50 Rock Artistes of all times. His repertoire includes songs such as Let’s Dance, Ashes to Ashes and Under

Pressure.

4. Paul Simon:

A brilliant musician and songwriter, along with Garfunkel he gave us some of the most heart-warming songs of all times. Even after breaking up with Garfunkel he has continued to bring forth great songs. The film The Graduate owes a great deal to their inspiring music and to date we can hear Bridge Over Troubled waters and Sounds of Silence again and again.

5. Bruce Springsteen:

The Boss writes music which reflects the angst and frustration of the ordinary folks. He gives us pathos and dreams, he gives us anger and reflection and his songs are for all times. He is his own best performer since his voice seems to suit his words very well, but the fact remains that his words will probably live longer than his own singing.

Papercut was a song that was written by Chester from experience of his childhood drug abuse and constant fighting. It’s a song about a strong individual who looks out for himself, who is haunted by paranoia.

Papercut is of metal genre mixed with rap. Chesters voice is like an angel touch to this song. Overall, its a great song from LP which includes strong emotions.

3. In The End

Linkin Park had a great start with its first album named “Hybrid Theory”. Experiment with their music and the inclusion of a mixer with a rapper is what gave them the reputation they have today. In the End was another great song from their first album. The song was written to show persons failure and telling people that in the end all will be alright.

In the End featured #2 in the billboard hot 100 and have reached charts like The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born. This song features great performance from Mike Shinoda, Chester, the bass guitarist and the lead guitarist. The drummer has had more success in other songs than in this.

4. The Catalyst

The Catalyst is the 14th single from Linkin Parks latest album “A Thousand Suns”. In this experimental album, Linkin Park got great reviews from the critics and had topped the US billboard Rock Song chart and got #20 spot in Billboard Hot Digital Songs.

The Catalyst changes its tune from electronic medium to fist pumping rock complemented with great lyrics and backing vocals. The song is like an anthem to destroy evil, before it destroys us. The music video of this song is just very impressive in its smoke and water medium featured with slow motion videography.

5. What I’ve Done

I’m sure all of you must have seen the Transformers movie! Linkin Park provided the theme song for it, giving it some extra advertisement to the already great song. What Ive Done is Linkin Parks first single from their third album “Minutes To Midnight”.

In the music video, LP shows the rising prices of commodities, pollution caused by industries, killing of animals, increasing poverty and hunger, terrorism, religion, eventually creating a mess of the world we live in. This song helps you regret doing all the bad things we do that could affect other things.

With a good display of music and brilliant singing from Chester, What Ive Done is overall a great song from LP.

Top 10 Classical Music Composers of All Time

1 2

Classical music composers seem to have flourished mainly in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the twentieth century there have not been too many classical music composers who have achieved a great deal of fame or have left an impact on the music scene.

Here is our list of the Top Ten Classical Music Composers of all times – in no particular order:

1. Bach:

It was only after his death in 1750 that people realised what a great musical genius Bach really was. Till then he was mainly known as an organist and many considered his music to be old fashioned. He came in at a time when Baroque style of music was just beginning to come into its own and the Renaissance age of music was beginning to flounder. He gave us a synthesis of the two and gave us gems such as The Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations.

2. Beethoven:

German by birth, Beethoven moved to Vienna, Austria to learn and study under Haydn. He is considered to be among the most famous and influential composers of all time. Even though his hearing began to deteriorate by the time he had reached his late twenties, he continued to compose, conduct and perform. He composed in several music genres and for a variety of instrument combinations.

3. Mozart:

The most famous composer of the Classical era, Mozart composed over 600 works. He showed early promise as a musical genius, since he was performing on the keyboard and as a violinist since the age of 5 and was composing from the age of 6. His style was brilliant and he combined the elements of the dark and passionate with the graceful and light and gave us memorable operas such as The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni.

4. Schubert:

Probably best known for his immortal version of Ave Maria, and his Symphony Number 9, Schubert was a genius who incorporated the vision of Mozart in his compositions. Many consider him to be the greatest songwriter of all times and of melodic, lyrical compositions. He composed masses, symphonies, ballet, string quartets and sonatas.

5. Haydn:

The inventor of the string quartet, and of the modern symphony, Haydn was also an exceptional opera and mass composer. He created the string quartet when one musician failed to turn up for one his recitals and he had to join in as the second violinist with another violinist, violist and cellist. He went one to give us his famous cello concerto.
