Vampire books and movies have become very popular after the Twilight series was released recently. However, these films are classics and Edward Cullen cannot be compared to these legendary vampires.
1. John Carpenter’s Vampires
This was released in 1998 and stars James Wood who plays the character of a vampire hunter. His parents were killed by vampires which is why he takes it upon himself to kill each and every vampire in town.
2. Lost Boys
Released in 1987, Lost Boys is very popular amongst hardcore vampire movie goers. Two boys along with their single mother move to a new town after which the younger son befriends a few odd boys. These kids say that they are vampire hunters while the older brother starts showing signs of becoming a vampire and the younger one takes it upon himself to save his brother.
3. Interview with a Vampire
This movie is based on a book by the same name by Anne Rice. It revolves around Louis, a plantation owner who becomes lifeless after his brother dies. Lestat, a vampire asks him if he wishes to become like him and Louis accepts. However, he does not enjoy his new life very much and the two change a little girl after which the two start living as a family during the 1700s. A young journalist then interviews a vampire who says that he is about 200 years old and delves into his life story.
4. Dracula
This legendary film was released in 1958 and starred Christopher Lee. After getting attacked by Jonathan Harker, Dracula starts preying on Harker’s fiancée’s family after moving away. Dr. Van Helsing is the one and only vampire hunter who can protect them. This movie was critically acclaimed and was laced with both sexuality and gore.
5. Bram Stoker’s Dracula
This film was released in 1992 and was created keeping a modern audience in mind. The cast was great and the director did a great job which became apparent after it won innumerable awards.
This movie was released in 1979 and was massively marketed with the help of action figures, comic books and toys. One can say that “Alien” is the film that inspired the creation of some of the best monster movies we know of today. The cast was brilliant and the creature designed by H.R.Giger scared the audience out of their wits and looked like nothing one had ever seen before.
Released in 1985, “Creature” was filmed after “Alien” was a huge success. Therefore, while it is quite similar to the above mentioned movie, the “monster” elements are not as frightening and the story line is not as serious. In addition to that, even though the creature in this movie will not be as fondly remembered as the one in Alien, it is definitely a charming one, making this movie perfect for those who wish to spend the evening getting terrified.
Deep Rising was released in 1998 and was directed by the man who created the famous mummy in the films “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns”. The monster in this movie lives underwater and enjoys consuming ships. Even though many people are killed in the process, the movie is slightly humorous- you will find yourself laughing for several minutes at scenes that are meant to be grim and action-packed.
This movie was released in 1989 and was directed by Sean S. Cunningham. The monsters in this movie live underwater as well and are said to belong to another era. These prehistoric monsters consume anything and anybody that stands in their way. Even though the cast is unknown, the monster is undoubtedly appealing for monster-lovers!
The Descent was released in 2005 and the plot revolves around such monsters that reside underground and look like humanoid vampires. They attack six women who are unfortunately, locked underground and cannot find an exit. The movie is terrifying and nail-biting and will make you jump every time something movies in the darkness.
The movie stars Linda Blair as Regan who plays the daughter of a famous actress. Regan soon makes an imaginary friend who ultimately takes possession of her body and is said to be the Devil. The images are chilling and will make you shiver and scream till the last scene!
The movie begins with Rosemary and Guy moving into a new apartment shortly after their marriage. The neighbors seem perfectly hospitable and friendly. However, after she announces her pregnancy, the atmosphere becomes eerie and uncomfortable in the apartment building. One question remains- Who or What is the father of Rosemary’s baby?
The plot of this chilling film revolves around Damien who is said to be the Devil’s son. A well-known, political and extremely influential family adopts the child. Damien soon starts to destroy anything and anyone that creates obstacles between him and his ultimate aim of world domination.
A family finds that their home is haunted and instead of scaring the family, the ghosts initially amuse them by moving their furniture around. Soon after, they become nasty and take it upon themselves to terrorize the young family and kidnap their youngest daughter.
The plot of this movie focuses on Jack Torrance, a writer who takes on the post of a caretaker during the winter season at a hotel. Jack’s son and the chef of the hotel are said to have psychic abilities as they can see ghosts of those people who were murdered in the hotel years ago. Jack soon gets influenced by these supernatural entities during a snowstorm and tries to kill his son and wife.
