Imagine you are stuck on an island away from humanity. What if there was a natural disaster (god forbid) and you needed essential skills to survive? What skills would you require to get through an emergency? This list goes through the top 10 survival skills that are essential to survival in emergencies and urgent situations.

1. Shelter:

Before anyone builds a shelter, they need to consider location. After strategically planning a location, the person needs to know how to assemble a shelter which will not be destroyed easily.

2. Fire:

Fire is the key to survivor. Without fire, there is nothing you can cook food on. When stuck remotely, you will also need fire to keep you warm. Otherwise, many people may find themselves with hypothermia and pneumonia.

3. Finding Food:

Being able to get a hold of food is important to survival. Without this item, people would find themselves weaker and unable to complete other tasks related to survival.

4. Finding Water:

Fresh water is the key to survival. You can survive days without food, but you cannot last more than 48 hours without water. You may find yourself dehydrated and weak and unable to survive.

5. First Aid:

Wounds, bites, burns, poisons etc. could occur while stuck in a remote location. Knowing the basic first aid skills is the key to survival.

When you are faced with an emergency, make sure you have the following items with you. These items will help you through a dire situation until it is resolved.

1. Non-Perishable Foods:

These are items that do not waste or decay. They also last a long time, in case of emergencies. The foods may include canned good items, pasta, sugar, flour, and spices. Dried goods also are helpful and needed.

2. Water:

You need to be kept hydrated at all times. Without water, you may not make it through the emergency past 3 days. Any fluids could work, but water is the most important.

3. First Aid Kit:

This is also important to have when faced with an emergency. You may need it to prevent infects and scuts that may cause infections. Every home should have at least the basics from the First Aid kit.

4. Swiss Army Kit/Can Opener:

You will need to have one of the following in order to open some of the food items you have prepared. You may not be able to utilize the Non-Perishable items without this item.

5. Candles:

These are important in case there is a blackout, like the one we experienced in 2003 in North America. You may need candles to see where you are going. Otherwise, you may find yourself in the dark until the lights are back on.

People in horror films are usually quite stupid- they practically walk into the killer’s arms and ask to be bludgeoned to death. If you ever find yourself caught in a horror movie, keep the following tips in mind-

1. Keep Checking

If a man with a mask is chasing you and you are lucky enough to get into your car in time, take some time to turn around and run your eyes over the back seat. Then do it again- just to be sure. Also, if you have a feeling that somebody is hiding in the boot, find a sharp enough weapon to puncture it because what’s the point of opening it normally?

2. Hide

If you are hiding under the bed or in a closet, try not to keep peeking through the cracks every two minutes. Once you are sure that the killer has left the building, you should check your surroundings carefully and run your hand over the ground.

3. Run

If you cannot find a knife and you are sure that your lipstick will not work, run as fast as you can. Do not be silly enough to think that you will outrun the monster, though. No matter how fast you run on the treadmill in the gym and even if the monster is only strolling towards you, it will catch up with you sooner than you think. But still- keep running.

4. Don’t Be Excessively Brave

If you walk by a deserted building whose entrance is smeared with blood and you hear somebody crying out, do not take it upon yourself to save them. You will get killed.

5. Stay Away From the Undead

Sometimes pets and family members come back from the dead in horror movies. If you own such a pet or are knew the relative, don’t even think of going towards them. They won’t really care who you are as long as you have some meat on your bones that they can chew on.

While we all hope that you never go to prison, the following tips will come in handy in case you manage to land yourself in some serious trouble.

1. Stay away from punks
In jail, this term is used to describe those people who attach themselves to new inmates and are referred to as their ‘girlfriends’. It is done mainly for protection and the inmate may benefit in the short run but ultimately the other prisoner will not only abuse the inmate but also treat him like a slave.

2. Keep Quiet

When in prison, only speak when you are spoken to. This means that you should not talk about unnecessary things and definitely not discuss your crime. This becomes all the more important if you have been convicted for a sexual crime. If you are foolish enough to brag about it, you will become a huge target for brutality and rape.

3. Do Not Gamble

If you want to die in prison, you should definitely start gambling behind bars. When you play with other prisons, you will find yourself in a lose-lose situation. If you lose, you make them angry and if you win, you make them angrier. However, it is okay to play a few friendly games as this will help you pass time faster.

4. Respect the Guards and the Prisoners

If an incidents occurs in the jail and you know who is behind it; keep it to yourself if the guard asks you anything about it. If you start telling on your inmates, you will have to face the music. In addition to that, be sure to be nice to the guards whenever you can.

5. Understand that nobody is nice

If somebody is in prison, it probably means that he is not a kind person, unless of course he has been wrongly accused. Therefore, if somebody lends you something, always refuse because if you don’t, you will become indebted to that person and end up getting killed eventually.
