Gravity hills are found all over the world. Those who have been on such streets will know that if you park your vehicle at its foot, an illusion will be created that will make you believe that the car or bike is actually going up the hill!

 

2. Ebenezer Place

This street is in Scotland and is considered to be the shortest in the world as it is only 6.8 feet long. Naturally, there is only one house on this tiny street which was constructed in 1883.

 

3. Pan-American Highway

If Ebenezer Place is the shortest street in the world, this one is the longest. Earlier a street in Japan held the title but over the years because of several changes, this one has replaced it. It stretches across 29,800 miles and goes through nations like El Salvador, USA, Mexico and 12 others.

 

4. Parliament Street

Parliament Street in England is said to be the narrowest of its kind in the world. It measures about 25 inches and is 50 meters in terms of length and has been around since the 1300s.

 

5. Road to Giza

Road to Giza is mesmerizing because it is about 46,000 years old which makes it the oldest paved street in the world. It stretches across 7.5 miles and was initially used for the movement of basalt from one location to another.

Museums are either created to preserve certain artifacts or to enhance the knowledge of the rest of the world. However, the following are quite unusual and makes one wonder why they exist at all.

 

1. Museum of Jurassic Technology

This museum says that it showcases certain relics that go back to the Lower Jurassic period. It is unusual because the Jurassic period came to an end millions of years ago when humans did not exist. If humans were not around, who operated this ‘Jurassic technology”? The display of artifacts is quite weird and you will walk out more puzzled than ever.

 

2. British Lawnmower Museum

The museum exhibits about 400 antique lawnmowers as well as those that never entered the market. One interesting piece is the 1921 Blade which was basically powered by solar energy and was extremely fast. The artifacts belong to the Edwardian and Victorian era and the main aim of this odd museum is to keep the ‘engineering Heritage’ of England alive.

 

3. Kansas Barbed Wire Museum

This museum hopes to give life to that part of American history which is unofficially known as the Devil’s Rope. If you visit, you will be lucky enough to see about 2000 varieties of barbed wire as well as those samples that were manufactured till 1890. The museum includes a Barbed Wire Hall of Fame and a research library. Why one would care about barbed wire, is the question.

4. Glore Psychiatric Museum

This museum exhibits the psychiatric treatment history through the years. It does so with the help of reproductions, dioramas and models. One visit to this museum and you will understand that psychiatrics used methods like burning, blistering and public humiliation as a part of their treatment. The most interesting artifact is the ‘things-that-patients-swallowed’.

 

5. The Creation Museum

This museum stretches across 60,000 square feet of land and its main purpose is to give importance to young Earth creationism. The museum describes how the universe was created, how mankind was formed and how it will eventually die.

Before you ask why somebody would voluntarily want to get scared, think again! There are many people all over the world who get a thrill out of getting terrified out of their minds. Most of them are haunted houses.

 

1. Borley Rectory

This haunted house in England got its reputation over 80 years ago. People complain about odd noises coming from within the premises and some have even reported seeing ghost-like figures in the windows. Ration tourists explain it away and blame the moonlight or the darkness, but we know better.

 

2. Dead Man’s Curve

If you travel on this street, you will not travel on any other. Why? Because you will die. Hundreds of people have had sudden accidents on this road and according to legend, five young people met with a very brutal accident during the 1960s. The only survivor says that a headless hitchhiker roams the street.

 

3. Kelly Road

If you are in Pennsylvania and you find yourself getting increasingly spooked with every passing second, you may be standing on Kelly Road. Visitors say that if you go there with an animal, it will practically lose its mind and bare its violent side. Do not go here and keep your pets away as well.

 

4. The Whaley House

This attraction in California is pretty haunted, one would say. The doors and windows open and close violently even when the air is still. The courtroom is particularly odd and if you happen to visit, you will smell phantom cigar smoke and hear funny voices. It is enough to drive anybody crazy.

 

5. Raynham Hall

Raynham Hall in England has been haunted for over 300 years now. A woman called the Brown Lady likes scaring tourists and visitors. People say that she has no eyes, just blank sockets. The scariest part is that somebody has taken a photograph of this lovely lady. You can always meet her, if you like.

2. The Seward Highway

You can see the superb beauty of Alaska as you go along the Seward Highway. You can come across beautiful waterfalls, lush vegetation comprising rare flora and fauna as you go along this highway. You can also see sheep and mountain goats along this path. You can enjoy fishing and camping on this place.

The Seward Highway is also an important route as it provides access to: Girdwood and Alyeska ski resort via the Alyeska Highway; Whittier and Portage Glacier via the Whittier/Portage Road; Hope via the Hope Highway; and Exit Glacier recreation via Herman Leirer Road.

The first 10 miles of the highway are called the “New” Seward Highway, a major Anchorage thoroughfare (4-lane divided freeway) connecting South Anchorage with downtown. You simply cannot miss this on your trip.

 

3. Transfagarasan Road, Romania

This road is not only famous for its vampire history but is full of verdant vegetation and lofty mountains which will make you have a fun filled holiday in this scenic spot.

The road is quite peaceful road and is a great way to see snow in August, breath fresh air and escape from the dusty polluted cities, and highly recommended. It is highly recommended for the extreme outdoors lovers.

 

4. Icefields Parkway, Alberta, Canada

The beauty of the Ice fields parkway has to be seen to be believed. White snow, colossal mountains and green vegetation make the route all the more captivating. 1. Vostok Station, Antarctica

The coldest place on earth is considered to be Antarctica. Only penguins and seals inhabit this place. Vostok Station was named after the ship of Fabian von Bellingshausen, an Antarctic explorer.

It is also the biggest desert in the world because it has very little precipitation. The temperature can go down to -128.6o F or -89.2°C.

 

2. Sovetskaia, Antarctica

This used to be a Soviet research station in Antarctica. Its surface elevation is 3662m and was discovered on February 16, 1958 by the 3rd Soviet Antarctic Expedition. The temperatures can go down to –124.1o F or -86.7°C.

 

 3. Oymyakon, Russia

Oymyakon village is located to the east of Yakutia. Around 521 people live in this icy village. The average temperature is -96°F or -71.2°C during the winter which is nine months. Oymyakon lies in a bowl between mountains, which traps cold air and hence has such frigid temperatures.

 

4. Verkhoyansk, Russia

Verkhoyansk, located in the Yakutia region of Siberia, lies within the Arctic Circle. The city is the third smallest town in Russia. Its population is around 1,311 (2010 Census). The temperature, normally, will reach -40 °C (−40 °F) and −69.8 °C (−93.6 °F) at its peak. With Oymyakon, the city is considered the northern Pole of Cold.

 

5. North Ice Station Greenland

Greenland is known to be the coldest place in the western hemisphere. On January 9th,1954, a temperature of -87 °F (-66 °C) was recorded at the North ice Research Station in the middle of the Greenland Ice Sheet.

Newer versions of such super fast trains have started making their appearance around the length and breadth of several countries. They have made travel faster and easier for human beings. 1. CRH2 of China

CRH2 trainThe CRH2 is a modified E 2-1000 series Shinkansen design and is one among the fastest train models in China. It is also the second Shinkansen model of train that was exported. The other one was the 700T series.


2. THSR – Taiwan

THSR trainThe Taiwan High Speed Rail is roughly 335.50 kms and runs along the west coast of Taiwan. It runs to Kaohsiung city from Taipei City and is said to have started its operation on January 5, 2007.


3. KTX – Korea

KTX trainSouth Korea’s high-speed rail system, the Korea Train eXpress (KTX) is operated by Korail. It has a high speed of 350km/hr and its technology is based on the French TGV system. Its speed can be limited to 300 km/h for safety during normal service. This super fast train reached a great speed of 352.4 kms per hour on December 16, 2004.


4. Shinkanzen – Japan

Shinkanzen trainA network of super fast trains connects Honshu in Japan with other major cities. It also connects Fukuoka on the island of Kyushu and Tokyo. The super fast trains of Japan are known as shinkansen. These trains of bullet types are run by Japan Railways.


5. Ave – Spain

Ave trainAVE is an abbreviation for Alta Velocidad Española meaning High Speed. It can also imply bird in Spanish. Ave is a network of high speed trains that operate at speeds of up to 300 km/h and connects all important towns and cities in Spain.
