6. Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams began her career in 1998 when she landed the role Jen Lindley in the teen soap-like drama “Dawson’s Creek” co-starring Katie Holmes. But first, she had to emancipate from her parents at age 15, so that she could decide what roles to take on her own.The show ended in 2003, and the following year, Williams landed the role of Heath Ledger’s wife, Alma, in “Brokeback Mountain”.

They began a relationship together, and had their daughter, Matilda Rose, in 2005. 2005 was a big year for the couple. Not only did they have their daughter that year, they also had their movie coming out, and both of them were nominated for an Oscar. The couple seemed to have a stable life in New York, away from the public eye. While promoting their movie, Ledger called Williams, “the perfect mom”.

However, it all seemed to good to be true as Williams and Ledger broke off their engagement in 2007. The separation took a toll on Ledger, as well as his career path. He was depressed and could not seem to be able to sleep. On January 22, 2008, Heath Ledger died due to a drug overdose from six different prescription medications. Michelle Williams was left to raise their daughter on her own.

Williams stepped away from the public eye, but paparazzi would follow her and Matilda everywhere they went. But she still put a brave face on for the cameras. Williams seemed to get through her pain, but in November 2008, almost a year after Heath Ledger died, Williams broke down once her former partner’s name is mentioned.

In 2012, Williams won a Golden Globe for her iconic role in “My Week with Marilyn”, playing Marilyn Monroe herself. In her acceptance speech, Williams acknowledged her daughter’s strength by saying, “I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.”

We know Nicole Richie as the adoptive daughter of legendary singer, Lionel Ritchie. But we first saw Nicole in the spotlight in the reality show, “The Simple Life”, co-starring her then best friend, Paris Hilton, whom she has known since she was 2 years old. The show took headlines when Ritchie and Hilton had a rift in their friendship in 2005. That same year, the public saw Richie lose a lot of weight to the point that she was too thin. Ritchie faced a troubled life seeing as she was in rehab several times and jail for a DUI case.

Ritchie had several relationships and a failed engagement with Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, who died in 2009. But it wasn’t until she met Good Charlotte rocker, Joel Madden that her life changed for the better. Ritchie and Madden started dating in late 2006; right after Madden ended his 3 year relationship with then teen pop star, Hilary Duff. Richie got pregnant four months later, and had a daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, in January 2008. Richie’s personality and attitude had softened since the birth of her daughter. Richie developed clothing and shoe lines called “Winter Kate” and “House of Harlow”. She said once in interview that motherhood domesticated her. Richie and Madden also have a son, Sporrow, who was born in 2009. The couple made their union official in December 2010 after a 4 year courtship.

This Sex symbol, actress and model and producer is famous for her scandalous high profile relationships. When she fell in love with Mötley Crüe drummer, Tommy Lee Anderson, it fulfilled her longing for having a family. The two got married after a very short time of knowing each other, and eventually had two sons. Pamela suddenly found herself in a new and unfamiliar role of a mother. She was one of the first celebrities who tried to make the process as natural as possible; with both of her sons, she had home birth, as well as breastfed both of them despite having breast implants. She is advocating for vegetarianism and natural parenting and is often seen volunteering in her sons school. When asked if her sons find her beautiful Anderson replied that to them she is just an “uncool” mom.

She dated her then boyfriend, rocker, Gavin Rossdale for nearly a decade before making it official in 2002. They faced a long distance relationship before marriage, and a scandal when a DNA proved that model, Daisey Lowe, is Gavin’s daughter in 2004. Stefani once said of the long distance relationship that “having a long distance relationship is better than not having a relationship at all.

A year after Stefani and Rossdale married, their first child – son Kingston was born, shifting Gwen into the “motherhood comes first” mode. Her first solo album was recorded in soon after he was born. She also admitted to recording many of her songs while breastfeeding Kingston, she also attributed her quick post-pregnancy weight loss to it. When her second son came Gwen has put the break on her career, although she claimed that it is motherhood that inspires her. She took the time off to recuperate and be there for her two boys, away from the spotlight. It is unusual for celebrity moms to take time off from successful career; however we are confident that this multitalented mom will make even stronger come back once her boys get older.

Jamie Lynn spears has been known to the world as Britney Spears’ little sister. But she was a star in her own right, known to the pre-teens around the world. Spears was on the show “All That”, where she would play different roles in different skits. In one skit, her older sister appeared in. In 2004, Jamie Lynn landed a role in the Nickelodeon show, “Zoey 101”. She played Zoey Brooks, a girl attending PCA school. The show followed her life in the school with her friends in tow.

Spears lived a life any teenager would dream of. She had a good family, friends, career, and a boyfriend. She started dating Casey Aldridge in 2005. In 2007, just after the filming of “Zoey 101” wrapped, Spears announced she was pregnant at only 16 years of age. She decided to step away from Hollywood to take responsibility for her actions and keep the baby. Spears got engaged to her boyfriend, and moved in with him to take care of the baby together. Their daughter, Maddie Briann Aldridge, was born in June 2008. The couple broke up in 2010, but has maintained a friendly relationship for the sake of their daughter.

Of her life right now and being a mother to Maddie, Spears said, “These days, the only thing I’m afraid of is not being a good mom. As long as Maddie is healthy and she loves me, the rest doesn’t matter.”
