Top 10 Cat Breeds That Should Be Avoided

Cats can be quite sweet but then again, they can belong the following breeds- which basically means that they are far from looking ‘cute’.

1. Devon Rex

This breed originated in the 1960s and contrary to popular belief is not related to the German Rex breed. These cats do not have ‘guard hair’ and their fur is very fine. They have very large eye as well as low-set and large ears. Even though they are quite playful, they should be avoided because they look quite ugly.

2. Scottish Fold

A Scottish Fold cat’s ears are very close to their heads. This is because their genes are slightly mutilated which causes their ears to fold over because of which they look quite funny and sometimes, angry. These cats can be cute if you really love cats but otherwise, they are not too appealing.

3. Japanese Bobtail

These cats have puffy tails and tend to hop about like rabbits instead of run like normal cats. Their eyes are usually gold or silver in color and while they are quite expensive, they aren’t too popular as they can be quite startling with all that hopping.

4. Khao Manee

These Siamese cats can have different colored eyes- while one can be green, the other is usually blue. Even though these cats are considered to be a symbol of luck and have been around for hundreds of years, they can look quite scary with their odd-colored eyes.

5. Savannah

Cats belonging to this breed have odd markings which includes spots and stripes that are irregularly placed on their bodies. They are quite large and can weigh up to 16 kilograms. Savannahs can be very friendly and love to play fetch and are known to be as loyal as dogs. However, the fact that they greet their owners and others by shoving their head into them, is quite unusual. These cats like to jump a lot and instead of drinking the water in their bowls, they will bat it out with their paws.

6. Teacup Persians

These cats may look very cute and have become quite popular recently but this does not rule out the fact that they should be avoided. This is because they are susceptible to several problems including lupus, cancer, urinary tract disorders and eyelid cysts.

7. Munchkin

Munchkin cats have very short legs because they suffer from a genetic mutation. However, this does not mean that they cannot jump or run as fast as other cats. People tend to avoid this cat breed because they feel that suffer from a genetic disease. Apart from the short legs, Munchkins also have spinal deformities and oddly shaped chests.

8. Pixie-Bob

Pixie-Bobs are large and look like small bobcats. They are known to be very intelligent and like to exercise and play fetch. The only odd thing about them is that instead of meowing, they chirp and tend to stick to their owners in the house.

9. Minskin

This breed is relatively new and originated in 1998. They belong to a particular category of cat breeds referred to as the Dwarf Breed. Not much is known about this cat as it is still new but they are definitely not adorable or cute so it is okay if you want to avoid the breed.

10. Sphynx

This cat is also known as the Canadian Hairless and is born without any fur. As it grows older, it develops a soft fur with very short hair and thankfully, normal looking eyebrows and a few whiskers here and there. The creature is quite lovable once you get used to its odd appearance.

Stay away from these cats… because some of them are “ugly”? What a stupid list.

“However, the fact that they greet their owners and others by shoving their head into them is quite unusual.” umm…. BOTH of my “American Standards” do this; it’s rather normal feline behavior. To put this forward as a reason to avoid a breed of cat tells me you don’t know much about cats, sorry!

I think this list should have been called “10 Unique Cat Breeds” as the only breed you gave a real reason for wanting to avoid were the Teacup Persians noting health reasons. Your one reason for the other 9 breeds were “They look different/weird/ugly.” Which is really just a personal preference as I think the Khao Manee eyes are beautiful (on that note I do also love black and orange tortoiseshell cats and most people seem to find their coloring ugly) and most people who choose a hairless, or mostly hairless, breed is because of allergy reasons. It’s not as if these breeds are known for violent behavior where they wouldn’t be good with other pets or around children, or have extremely low life spans, or weird dietary needs that make them intolerable to own, and if they do, you didn’t state that anywhere. On the contrary, you point out in almost every single breed you list that they are loveable, or playful, or great except for a slight difference in their appearance that some people ‘might’ not like.

Wow. Way to be a shallow ass. Who cares if some people think they’re ugly? Looks aren’t the only thing that matter AND some people probably think most of those are adorable.

This was an utterly ridiculous list. You named maybe one or two cats to be avoided due to logical reasoning. When one reads a list like this they want to hear about which cats are highly susceptible to health problems or have terrible tempermants. Instead you went on ad nauseum about aesthetics. What one considers ugly varies from person to person… so this was a horrid list.

This list may be the worst one I have ever seen on a list site. The information about the munchkin having spinal problems is wrong; it was initially feared that the dwarf gene that causes it’s long leg bones to be short may be associated with the type of spine issues suffered by dogs who have a similar gene, but breeding over the years has proven this not to be true. Also, munchkins have amazing personalities, and they retain their kittenlike behavior throughout their lives. And to avoid a breed because of it’s unusual looks is just ridiculous. Many people are drawn to various breeds for that very reason.

Who the fuck wrote this piece of shit article? I want to royally beat their ass!!!
You gave absolutely NO GOOD REASONS WHATSOEVER for avoiding ANY of these cats. They look ugly? They look scary? They bat water out of their bowls? Are you fucking kidding me??? These are supposed to be reasons for people to avoid owning them?
Not everyone finds them ugly, scary, or troublesome you fucking LOSER. Just because YOU personally find them ugly doesn’t mean the non-LOSERS of the world will. Get a life you idiot mother fucker!

I personally think these cats are even cuter than the more ordinary breeds, those different coloured eyes are so cool and the savvanah ones would make me feel like i had a cheetah or somethingin my house, as a friend and that would be awesome. This should of been something like top 10 awesome or unique cat breeds or something…

I was expecting this to be about temperaments…not on how the cat looks…I think they’re all cute! This is a ridiculous list. I would never not buy a cat because it is considered “ugly”. Poor kitties. They all seem to have good behaviors and characteristics so don’t judge a book by its cover!
