Top 10 Items We Over Consume

Advertisement was present before television, radio and in fact the internet. We can trace back advertisement to  the Ancient Greeks who put For Sale signs on the side of their homes. Although we have seen a decline in the throwaway society, it is still quite present. People still over consume the following items.

1. Shoes:

If you are married you know what I mean. You probably have seen a woman go through at least 2 pairs of shoes a year. The closet is filled with shoes that are worn less and less as the year goes by. Men are no different. I have a friend who is a lawyer. When he has the money he would buy himself the most expensive shoes at Harry Rosen. Salesmen just see $$$$ when he comes around.

2. Fast Food:

Humans over consume fast food. If you examine the article on this website on the top overweight countries, you will understand what I mean. People are addicts and they buy into the advertisement at McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Harvey’s etc.

3. All you can eat:

I am a big fan of this. I will go to at least 1 all you can eat sushi place once a week. I have a craving for sushi that I just cannot resist. In fact, a la carte sushi places are closing, given that they cannot compete with AYCE places. Too much MSG is not good for you though. Resist the temptation.

4. Electronics:

People over consume and throw away old electronics. They buy newer cell phones, computers and other technological advancements. Their old stuff gets shuffled pretty quickly.

5. Paper:

Paper is over consumed throughout the world. The consumption has increased 5 folds over the last 50 years. The consumption is unequal. The world consumes 1 billion tones of paper per year. U.S. leads these statistics with 58% of adults never reading a book after leaving school.

6. Water:

With fresh water being scarce, overconsumption is becoming a major problem. The average North American uses 400 litres of water every day. Lengthy showers, over-watering lawns, unnecessary tap running are the major causes of this.

7. Energy:

We are in a global crisis where energy is often over consumed when unnecessary. Many people would leave light on, drive cars when they do not have to. Reduce the ecological footprint and reduce the energy.

8. Clothes:

I had to add this one. Many people throw out clothes that they overgrew or are old and ripped. Clothes that are in the garbage are a waste. Many needy individuals would die to have a shirt like yours, old or not.

9. Furnishings:

People buy and buy and buy new things that they never use. Some of the things that collect dust in the house probably have been used once or twice. People still buy things that they like, but without cause.

10. Money:

Had to add this one! Some rich are greedy and they know how to use their money, while the poor get poorer. What a wasteon what a mansion, clothes, cars. These are all luxury items.
