Magnesium sulfate also known as epson salt is often used for the treatment of constipation and heartburn. Consuming this salt assists in the increasing the level of magnesium present in the body. Excess amount of magnesium in the body can show as magnesium sulfate toxicity symptoms.

When you’re pregnant, magnesium helps build and repair your body’s tissues. A severe deficiency during pregnancy may lead to preeclampsia, poor fetal growth, and even infant mortality.

Like many vitamins and minerals, excessive amounts of magnesium can be toxic. As noted by the National Institutes of Health, foods generally do not have enough magnesium to be toxic, but taking magnesium supplements can lead to overdose.
