Game Of Thrones is an HBO production full of intrigues, plots, war and romance; in other words, everything a series needs to capture the audience and keep it hooked. What makes this series great comprises of the unexpected situations, even for people who have read the book.
It has been said that the success of the series is linked to the amazing play of the actors and the incredible way they manage to enter their characters’ role. In fact, some of these actors are able to stir up the deepest feeling inside viewers. Let’s review the top 10 Game Of Thrones characters whom we love to hate.
1. Prince Joffrey Baratheon
The number one position in this top is occupied by none other than the psychopath boy-king, Prince Joffrey. His character is designed to be the ultimate villain, a persona who the audience can detest truly and without any reservation. Because the Prince is keen on ordering the imprisonment or death of most of the characters the viewers love, viewers state that they have high hopes that Joffrey will find his end in the most painful and humiliating way possible.
2. Queen Cersei
Often referred as The Queen, Cersei represent an interesting variant of the evil queen in Snow White. Regardless of whether somebody trusts her or not, her ambition determines her to betray anyone who stands in the way. One of the explanations for her strong will and ambition to defend her family comes from the fact that she hates all the restrictions women (including the Queen) are subjected to in comparison to men.
3. Theon Greyjoy
Everyone knows that Theon is the everlasting disrespected son of the house of Greyjoy. However, when he reaches his father’s castle in an attempt to get Balon Greyjoy on the same side as Rob Stark (his friend since childhood), we understand why his family and people treat him with insolence. Essentially, his return was far from what he expected and in an effort to win the favor of great hero returning home, he only makes poor choices and proves just what a total failure he really is.
4. Melisandre
Initially, nobody could love or hate Melisandre, the Eastern priestess serving as a close advisor to Stannis Baratheon and the Lord of Light. However, her appearance in the series comes at a crucial point when everyone was hopping Rob Stark will gather his allies and win the war. It is very possible that Melisandre is an abhorrent character not because of her questionable methods, but rather because most consider her responsible for the fact that Stannis decides to take the throne with own forces.
5. Walder Frey
Although the Lord of the Crossing was a minor character in the first season, his cranky, rudimentary and weird personality makes him a despicable Game Of Thrones character. In general, Walder Frey is the stereotypical bad guy who is disloyal, a murderer, an opportunist who does not care about his own family and a person nobody can trust.
6. Lysa Arryn
While Lysa Arrys is an episodic character, that did not stop viewers from voting her as one of the most hated personas in the Game of Thrones series. Imposing isolation for her entire realm after the death of her husband, the Lady of Vale is not very different from Queen Cersei . Basically, even though both go to great lengths to keep their sons safe, the only difference between the two is that Cersei is actually successful in protecting her son.
7. Craster
Granted, Craster represents one of the most trustworthy allies of the Night’s Watch. However, it turns out that this maniac is impregnating his daughters and plans to build a massive army of women, just to have sex with them. What viewers found repulsive about Craster is the fact that he does not accept boys and, if a newborn happens to be one, then he simply gives it as an offering for the wights. In the light of these fact, many have considered Craster a very disturbed egotistical character who is just trying to make a better life for himself; essentially nobody sees any nobility in the help he lends to the Night’s Watch.
8. Jaime Lannister
There is something special about Jamie Lannister, also known as the Kingslayer: we all know he is an unscrupulous individual as well as brother and lover of Queen Cersei; yet his arrongance and overall attitude is justified considering the Kingslayer is one of the best knights in the realm when it comes to wielding a sword. Apparently, this character is very different in the “A Song Of Ice And Fire” saga and he is built in a rather minimalistic manner in the TV series.
9. Viserys Targaryen
Viserys and Daenerys are the last two survivors of the House of Targaryan and the only rightful claimants to the Iron Throne. But, there is one problem: they are both exiled and needs to raise an army; moreover he is willing to walk over bodies just so he can rule the Seven Kingdoms again. What made everyone despise Viserys is his abusive and cruel behavior for his sister, whom he forces to marry Khal Drogo, a powerful leader of a savage and nomadic tribe. Justice was served in Viserys case and he even got a poetic ending that completely makes up for his genuine awfulness in life.
10. Sansa Stark
In all honesty, the main reason nobody really likes Sansa is because she is too naïve and utterly unprepared for the real world. While there is nothing wrong wanting to see everything as nice and pretty, her attitude, behavior, thoughts as well as all those clichés are frustrating. In fact, the fantasy world Sansa believes she is living in determines her to betray her own father when she informs Queen Cersei about their plans to leave. The idea of a pretty world as well as the inexplicable pretense that she loves Joffrey are practically what get Eddard Stark beheaded and the war started.
This list needs to be reevaluated just to put Ramsay in the number one spot. He makes Joffrey look like a amateur in terms of sadism and cruelty. Also Littefinger should probably be here since he’s largely responsible for Ned Stark’s death, a horrible boss in general and I really don’t trust him with Sansa x_x
