6. Cross contamination

Cross contamination

One of the leading reasons so many people get sick from food each year is cross-contamination. Usually, these illnesses are mild and won’t slow down a healthy adult, but 20 percent of food-borne illnesses are severe enough to require hospitalization. However, the greatest threat of cross-contamination foods face is in the prep area of the kitchen. Not washing and sanitizing cutting boards, knives between tasks is a serious problem. Using a not so clean or a dirty towel at a food prep table can spread bacteria all over the surface of the table, which can then be passed on to the other foods. Employees who do not wash their hands between two tasks especially while handling raw meats and cooked foods are the culprits if a food-borne illness occurs and should be punished. Putting cooked and ready to eat meats back in the container that held them originally when they were raw is a disaster waiting to happen and these disasters should be prevented.

7. Bad ingredients

Bad ingredients

Some fast food’s chicken nuggets contain a chemical preservative called tertiary butylhydro-quinone, which is derived from a petroleum. Almost all foods on McDonald’s menu contain hydrogenated oils that are also harmful to the body because they damage your tissues and raise your ‘bad’ cholesterol. Most household food budget is spent on processed foods, out of the majority of which are full of additives and stripped of nutrients. The junk food has no comparison with the home made food and is extremely unhygienic and made of ingredients that are bad to health of a person and may result in a visit to doctor.

8. Depression

According to a recent study headed by scientists from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada, eating commercial baked goods like cakes, croissants, doughnuts, etc and fast foods like hamburgers, french fries and pizza is linked to depression. A healthy diet plays a part in keeping hormone levels on an even level, makes a man fit and proud about his body while a diet high in junk food falls short of these requirements and results in depression. Consuming trans fats, saturated fats and processed food is associated with up to 58 percent increase in risk of depression.

9. Diabetes

Insulin levels become elevated when you eat processed sugars, such as in soft drinks, white flour and other foods devoid of fiber and nutrients necessary to properly use up the carbohydrates. Eating junk food throughout the day causes high insulin levels, which results in a condition known as insulin resistance. This occurs because eating too much sugar puts your metabolism under stress; when you eat a lot of refined white sugar and simple carbohydrates that is when your body has to pump up insulin production to prevent a dangerous spike in blood sugar levels. Ultimately, obesity and Type 2 diabetes may set in the body just like thousands of people who are suffering from it

10. Obesity

Fast food restaurants are the cause of children becoming obese because a good percent of the fast food restaurants anywhere in the world are doing nothing to try and prevent this crisis. Junk food in these children’s diet are the reason for 187 extra calories per day, leading to about 2 additional kilo grams of weight gain per year. Obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases which include diabetes and many other chronic health conditions.
