The average purchase price of a detached house in the UK is now £249,000 which is roughly ten times the average wage. This may seem a like a huge figure but it is nothing compared to the value of some houses.  With this in mind, we now take a look at some of the world’s most expensive homes.

The UK property is reminiscent of the opulence that features more and more in London. This has to be the most decadent apartment in the world. It is one of over 80 multi million pound properties backed by the Qatari royal family. This particular example also costs $135,000,000.

Here we have another property in the UK but this time based in Surrey. It is a home that is large as well as beautiful. Set in grounds of over 58 acres and with 103 rooms, it is an awe inspiring piece of real estate. You won’t get any change out of $139,000,000 though.

Even the members of the Hollywood elite would struggle to purchase this property. It is a mansion set in grounds of over 4 acres and provides  enough space to park 100 cars. If you like snow-capped mountains in an alpine setting and you happen to be very rich, then a place like this could be yours. Located within a private retreat, the house offers heated flooring, a jacuzzi and massage room. All this for just $155,000,000.

Any self respecting mansion should have a swimming pool. Well this one has three of them. The house, situated in none other than Beverly Hills, was once the home of William Randolph Hearst, the former newspaper magnate. The Hamptons located on the east coast of America, has a selection of very expensive homes. Fairfield Pond is at the top of the pile. The mansion has an amazing 39 bathrooms and 29 bedrooms. It even has a $150,000 hot tub thrown in. This place is also the most expensive home in the US, at $198,000,000.

The city of London is the location of yet another hugely expensive property. In fact this is considered as one of the most expensive apartments in the world. It comes complete with panic room and bullet proof windows. Security is also paramount with eye scanner entry and an escape tunnel for a quick getaway. The price also sky high at $200,000,000.

 

9. Villa Leopolda, Cote D’Azur, France

This mansion is massive even by oligarch standards. The floor space is 29,000 sq ft which is about the size of three or four normal sized mansions. The property is said to have one of the best views in the whole of the south of France. Fourteen bathrooms will mean you can soak in a different bath twice a day, every day in every week. However the price of $506,000,000 is enough to make your eyes water.

This last property is by far the most expensive home in the world. Having said that,  there really is no accounting for taste. This rather unusual design is hardly what most would consider beautiful. It does however have 3 helipads, a dedicated garage for 168 cars, a swimming pool and even a health centre. For something that is basically a high rise apartment block, the astronomical price of $1,000,000,000 is quite hard to understand.
