Top 10 Bowlers in Cricket History

It has been said that a good bowler can single-handedly make his entire team win. There have been a number of excellent bowlers in cricket history, the following are the top 10:

1. Glenn McGrath-Australia

Possibly the best bowler in cricket history, Glenn McGrath was persistently accurate when it came to taking wickets. He played for 14 years and has taken over 550 wickets. He is undoubtedly deserving of the number one spot in this list.

2. Courtney Walsh-West Indies

Walsh bowled his way till the top in this field and made it look so easy. His success is further consolidated by the fact that he was at the top for 17 years. This legend has taken over 500 Test wickets which was a record at one point.

3. Wasim Akram- Pakistan

This left-handed bowler is considered to be among the fastest in the field. His is fondly referred to as the Sultan of Swing and has taken over 350 Test wickets. Akram has also recorded two hat-tricks in both ODI and Test cricket.

4. Kapil Dev- India

Kapil Dev was definitely the best in the game during his time and is said to be an all-rounder. He gave his all no matter what the stakes were and he would deserve a mention even if he was terrible with the bat. However, both his batting and bowling were exceptional and he has taken over 430 Test wickets during his career. Last but not the least; he was also given the title of the “Cricketer of the last century”.

5. Allan Donald

Since his nickname was “White Lightening”, it goes without saying that he is among the top 10 bowlers in cricket history. Since South Africa was excluded from cricket, Donald gave his all at the age of 26 when he finally got his chance. His excellence in the field was proven when he took over 300 wickets.

6. Sir Richard Hadlee

New Zealand’s first few years in cricket were undoubtedly tough. However, Sir Richard Hadlee played the game well even during these years. At 22 he had taken over 430 wickets. It has been said that he could have won a game single-handedly any day.

7. Jeff Thompson

Along with Dennis Lillee, his team-mate, Jeff Thompson is said to have ‘terrorized’ the opposing team’s batsmen when it was his chance to bowl. Because of injuries, he could not take more than 200 wickets. However, he is still among the best and a few have been able to match his speed and precision.

8. Dennis Lillee

This bowler had a short temper and was fearsome when it came to bowling, to say the least. During the 1980’s, he set a record by taking over 350 test wickets and along with an average of 23.92, he was definitely among the best. Batsmen that were faced with Lillee knew that they would not walk away unscathed!

9. Michael Holding

This bowler was aggressive and single-minded when it came to bowling. He was passionate about taking wickets and took 248 during his career. While these statistics are impressive, what is even more remarkable is his nickname. “Whispering Death” is what his team-mates called him which explains more than enough about his abilities!

10. Malcolm Marshall

It has been said that Marshall had the ability to make batsmen very nervous. His pace was fast, his swing was ‘deadly’ and his accuracy was radar-like. He took over 370 Test wickets and is among the most phenomenal bowlers in cricket history.

Top Ten Reasons why Soccer is Different from Football

Among the several recreational sports that exist today, Soccer and Football are two famous games that have received good acceptance from the people worldwide. Also, they have existed since several decades and have made an impact all over. Call it Soccer or Football, this sport is the world famous and is enjoyed by all age groups of people over the world. The nature of both the games is almost the same with a thin line of difference between them.
They both are literally the same. Soccer is more of a crude form of Football. Both the games involve the feet to play the ball around. Here, we shall see some reasons what makes Soccer differ from Football. American Football is something that is more formal to Soccer.

1. Soccer was invented first:

Soccer was the first kind of game that had involved kicking the ball around without touching it by any part of the body. In fact, the idea was to just kick the ball and make it reach the goal. This was the most primitive kind of a sport which comes with originality.

2. While the whole world plays Soccer, only America plays Football!!!

Every other country plays Soccer and holds it to be something very sacred and also consider that its dignity lies in the game. Soccer is less popular in the United States and Canada due to several reasons of which one may be that they did not invent this game!

3. Soccer players are very handsome compared to Football players:

For instance, David Beckham is the heartthrob of several women out there. After him, Christiano Ronaldo lives this quote.

4. Better game environment:

Football fans can be really amazing with their wonderful facial paints and also the huge flags of their teams. But soccer has another section of fans called the hooligans singing their team’s anthem and light up camp fires while cheering outrageously for their team make the game much more interesting and absolute fun.

5. Among the footballers and Soccer players, Soccer players are considered to be far more fit than their counterparts:

The time duration of a soccer game can go up to about 90+ minutes while football just lasts for 60 minutes. Thus, this explains why soccer players are at their peak fitness level all the time.

6. Playing soccer requires more skill:

It is not just about handling the ball; it is all about handling it only with your lower limbs. This requires so much experience and also determination to handle the ball.

7. Footballers are well behaved than the Soccer players:

They don’t spit or utter promiscuously bad words. They do not demean themselves or their Country. Thus footballers are far decent compared to the soccer players.

8. In football, you can some of the most exciting hits:

Soccer does not allow offensive moves by players with an intention to hurt others. If the officials get to notice that the ball was in no way connected to the shot, then the players are penalized and at times even sent out of the game through a red card. Football has no such restrictions.

9. Football crowd is much safe:

Football crowd is often well behaved and support their team by wearing attires that depict their team.

10. Football employs a strategy:

This game has got a lot to do with intelligence. In fact, if you watch a football match, you will understand the strategy yourself.

Top Ten Differences – American Football and Rugby

Both Rugby and American football are interesting and exciting games. In the case of Football, it is a game that consists of 11 players and played between 2 teams, with unlimited substitutions. American football involves complex strategy and intense physical play wherein points have to be scored by advancing the ball to the end zone of the opponent’s team. In the case of Rugby, the game is a blend of American football’s contact, soccer’s running and the transition of basketball. It is a game consisting of 15 players each and played between two teams on a rectangular field, with the aim of running across the opponent’s goal line with an oval ball or kicking it through the top portion of the goal posts. The following are the top differences between the 2 games.

American Football Players1. Number of Players

In the case of American football, each team has 11 players on the field at one time, with unlimited substitutions. Three time-outs per half is given for each team. Play begins with a kickoff. The main object is to advance the pointed oval-shaped ball into the opponent’s end zone and score points in the process. On the other hand, a Rugby team consists of 15 players, divided into backs and forwards. Forwards are stronger players of the team who have to gain possession of the ball.

Origin of Rugby and Football2. Origin of Rugby and Football

American football is said to have developed from Rugby. Rugby was introduced to the Americans by the British colonists from Canada. In 1871, The Rugby Football Union had been formed by representatives of 21 clubs, most of which were situated in southern England. The working class people were particularly attracted by Rugby over soccer. Most of the sports historians say that the game of American Football originated from Rugby.

Football Field3. Football Field vs Rugby Field

American football is a game played on a rectangular field measuring 120 yards in length and 49 meters wide. A goal line can be seen near each end of the field which is 100 yards apart. The size is almost similar to a rugby league field which is 120 meters long and about half that in width. Every ten meters there is a line across the field.

Playing Rugby4. Contact Sport

Another notable difference between the two games is that in Rugby all players are allowed to handle the ball. Any type of forward passing, blocking and time-outs are not allowed. Obstruction to players and screening is not allowed in the case of Rugby which is possible in American Football. Hence Rugby is said to be a much safer game than American football.

Protective Equipment in Rugby5. Protective Equipment in Rugby and Football

Helmet, padding and other hard protective equipments is missing in Rugby. Hence players have to keep in mind their personal safety while playing the game. There is a lot of protective equipment that comes with American football.

empty-stands6. Schedule and Cost of Rugby vs American Football

Rugby is less expensive and involves a flexible schedule than hockey, professional football and other games.

Rugby Control7. Control

Players are more interested in retaining ball possession in the case of Rugby instead of getting yardage as in the case of football.

52885748. Scoring in Football Vs Scoring in Rugby

A Rugby league’s try is equivalent to a touchdown of American football. Ironically, a touchdown does not require the ball to touch the ground but a try requires the ball to be ‘touched down’. An American football touchdown gets a score of 6 points and a rugby league try is now worth 4 points.

Rugby Strategy9. Football Vs Rugby Strategy

American football is a game comprising set moves and counter moves. Rugby, on the other hand, is a more spontaneous and a free flowing game.

Geographical Differences10. Geographical Differences

As the name implies, American football is a popular game in North and South America while rugby is played in many parts of the world particularly in Australia and Europe.
