However, Jolie stated in an interview that she does not necessarily want a father-daughter relationship between her and her father, but to be friends.

With her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, on the other, Jolie had a very close bond. Sadly, Bertrand died in 2007 after a long battle with cancer. Jolie has said that she will never be as good of a mother that her mother was, and in 2012, said that she still sometimes forgets her mother is gone and wants to talk to her about her everyday life.

Through all her hard work and heartache, Angelina Jolie has managed to raise 6 young children with the help of Brad Pitt. First, she adopted her son from Cambodia, Maddox, in 2001 with then husband, Billy Bob Thorton. After the couple divorced, Jolie raised her son as a single mother. The two also starred together “Daredevil” in2003, but it wasn’t until they filmed scenes for “Elektra”, though Affleck’s scenes were deleted, that feelings started to develop. Garner and Affleck started dating in 2004. Garner got pregnant in 2005, and the couple had a quick marriage. They had their first daughter, Violet, in December 2005. Everyone was waiting and counting down the days, months, or years, until the couple announce their separation, but their union seems stronger than ever. Since the day her daughter was born, Garner went from being a superstar actress to a supermom. In January 2009, Garner and Affleck had their second daughter, Seraphina, and in August 2011, the couple announced that they are expecting their third child together.

She faced tragedy at a very young age when her partner of several years, Richard Jordan, died of a brain tumor in 1993. After several unsuccessful attempts, Cross became pregnant with fraternal twins, conceived via in-vitro fertilization. Towards the end of her pregnancy, Marcia was put a bed rest to prevent her from going into premature labor. Already a star in her popular TV show, she asked the producers to cut down on her appearances in the show until the delivery of her twins. Savannah and Eden were born with a beautiful mane of red hair, resembling their mom. Aside from her work on the set of “Desperate Housewives” Marcia is a hands on mother to her two girls and a devoted wife to her cancer-fighting husband.

However Brook didn’t feel ready for this challenged until she turned 38. While trying to conceive her first child she went through multiple failed attempts and several miscarriages. So when she was finally able to hold her daughter in her hands she was shocked when she felt only negative emotions and sadness. Embarrassed to admit them even to herself Brooke tried to fight her postpartum depression herself privately, only making matters worse. When she finally sought medical help and got better she decided to make more people aware of the seriousness of the issue, the symptoms recognition and its treatment. She was viciously attacked by a fellow actor, Tom Cruise for her open discussion of medical drug treatment of the depression. Shields did not think twice and fought back proclaiming Cruise irresponsible and ignorant. He later personally apologized for his harsh criticism. When her second daughter came along Brooke was ready to fight the battle she already knew and was able to recognize. However second time around was a charm, and Shield’s journey as a new mother went as a smooth sailing. We praise Brook for not only being a devoted mother to her children, but also using her celebrity status to bring the awareness of a serious mental illness into the world.

Jenny McCarthy started her career as a playboy model in 1993. Because of her new found fame, McCartney moved to Los Angeles to host a playboy show, “Hot Rocks”, which featured uncensored music videos. She got more jobs through playboy for the several years that followed. She started her acting career in 1998, when she starred in “BASEketball”. She also starred in, wrote, and produced the movie “Dirty Love”, for which she won a Razzie award.

Jenny McCarthy has a persona of a silly, funny woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. She would never shy away from looking silly and foolish in front of the public eye. She would rather be funny that sexy. During the time she was a spokesperson for Candie’s, a shoe store, McCarthy posed for a magazine ad by sitting on a toilet seat with her underwear near her ankles.

In 1998, McCarthy started dating John Asher. The couple married in 1999, and had a son, Evan, in 2002. Evan was diagnosed with autism in 2005. The matter proved difficult for the couple, Asher in particular, and they separated that year. She started a 5 year relationship with Jim Carrey later year, but that did not stop McCarthy to beat her son’s autism. Once she did, McCarthy became a spokesperson for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) from June 2007 to October 2008. She participated in fundraisers, online chats, and other activities to help families affected by autism to cope with the situation. McCarthy also published several books regarding that matter.

 

6. Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams began her career in 1998 when she landed the role Jen Lindley in the teen soap-like drama “Dawson’s Creek” co-starring Katie Holmes. But first, she had to emancipate from her parents at age 15, so that she could decide what roles to take on her own.The show ended in 2003, and the following year, Williams landed the role of Heath Ledger’s wife, Alma, in “Brokeback Mountain”.

They began a relationship together, and had their daughter, Matilda Rose, in 2005. 2005 was a big year for the couple. Not only did they have their daughter that year, they also had their movie coming out, and both of them were nominated for an Oscar. The couple seemed to have a stable life in New York, away from the public eye. While promoting their movie, Ledger called Williams, “the perfect mom”.

However, it all seemed to good to be true as Williams and Ledger broke off their engagement in 2007. The separation took a toll on Ledger, as well as his career path. He was depressed and could not seem to be able to sleep. On January 22, 2008, Heath Ledger died due to a drug overdose from six different prescription medications. Michelle Williams was left to raise their daughter on her own.

Williams stepped away from the public eye, but paparazzi would follow her and Matilda everywhere they went. But she still put a brave face on for the cameras. Williams seemed to get through her pain, but in November 2008, almost a year after Heath Ledger died, Williams broke down once her former partner’s name is mentioned.

In 2012, Williams won a Golden Globe for her iconic role in “My Week with Marilyn”, playing Marilyn Monroe herself. In her acceptance speech, Williams acknowledged her daughter’s strength by saying, “I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.”

Ritchie and Madden started dating in late 2006; right after Madden ended his 3 year relationship with then teen pop star, Hilary Duff. Richie got pregnant four months later, and had a daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, in January 2008. Richie’s personality and attitude had softened since the birth of her daughter. Richie developed clothing and shoe lines called “Winter Kate” and “House of Harlow”. She said once in interview that motherhood domesticated her. Richie and Madden also have a son, Sporrow, who was born in 2009. The couple made their union official in December 2010 after a 4 year courtship.

In 2007, just after the filming of “Zoey 101” wrapped, Spears announced she was pregnant at only 16 years of age. She decided to step away from Hollywood to take responsibility for her actions and keep the baby. Spears got engaged to her boyfriend, and moved in with him to take care of the baby together. Their daughter, Maddie Briann Aldridge, was born in June 2008. The couple broke up in 2010, but has maintained a friendly relationship for the sake of their daughter.

Of her life right now and being a mother to Maddie, Spears said, “These days, the only thing I’m afraid of is not being a good mom. As long as Maddie is healthy and she loves me, the rest doesn’t matter.”
