Top 10 Best Moments Of The Last 10 Years

Since we are now in the year 2010, it would only be fitting to list out the 10 best moments from the year 2000 to 2009.

 

1. Release of the final Harry Potter book- July 21,2007

J. K .Rowling released the first book in the Harry Potter series in 1997 after being rejected by a number of publishing houses. Luckily for her, the books became hugely popular and made her richer than the Queen of England. The final book released in 2007 and was, needless to say, immensely successful.

 

2. Release of the film Slumdog Millionaire- November 12, 2008

Created by Danny Boyle, this movie has been adapted from the book written by Vikas Swarup. It revolves around an impoverished boy who gets the chance to become a contestant in “Who Wants to be a Millionire?” The movie took the world by storm and won over 7 Oscars and made about 377 million dollars.


3. Tim Wakefield`s 200th win

For those unaware, Tim Wakefield is a professional baseball player. He began playing for the Red Socks in 1995. Not only is he the longest serving player on the team, but he won his 200th career game on September 13, 2011 while playing the Toronto Blue Jays.

 

4. Facebook was launched-February 4, 2004

Everybody is familiar with Facebook- most of us are addicted to it. When this social networking site was launched, it gained instant popularity. However, it was thought that it would die down and would soon be forgotten. It goes without saying that these people were wrong- facebook has proven itself and has made keeping in touch easier.

 

5. Youtube

The video-sharing website was created in February 2006. Billions of users now utilize this website to upload, view and share videos. The site uses the latest technology including HTML5. In 2006, the company was bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion. Sharing has now been made easy thanks to Chad Hurley, Stephen Chen, and Jawed Karim.

 

6. United States Presidential Election- November 4, 2008

Barack Obama was elected as the president of the United States of America on November 4, 2008 – making him the first black president of the nation. This move was considered to be synonymous with an attempt to get rid of racial discrimination. Obama believes he can bring about a change and for the sake of the Americans and the rest of the world- let’s hope he’s right.

 

7. Female Candidates running for President/Vice-President

Hilary Clinton became the first female candidate to try to run for top job in United States. Sarah Palin became the first female appointee for Vice-President. She ran with John McCain (Republican) but lost.

 

8. Wimbledon Men’s Final- 2008

The match between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer was legendary in 2008. It lasted for almost 5 hours and was widely discussed by fans, critics and players all around the world. The match was definitely among the greatest in history- if not the greatest ever!

 

9. Scott Savol’s clashes with Simon Cowell

This is definitely among the best American Idol moments. Scott Savol would continuously stare down Cowell after getting criticized again and again. Because it happened every week, it became quite amusing after a while!

 

10. Bo Bice’s Performance

Bo Bice sang “In a Dream” and pulled it off magnificently well. Very few contestants would even try pulling it off but he did- and he was great!
