Football or soccer as the American love to refer to it is by no doubt the most loved and watched sport in the world today. From Nairobi, Kenya- Africa to Sao Palo in South America, it is a game that is enjoyed and revered by the young and old. Having recognized the interest that a majority of people have in football, the article seeks to highlight some of the best all time top ten football teams in the world. Showcased are teams from Spain, England, Germany and Italy amongst others.

 

1. Real Madrid

Coming at number one is Real Madrid, a Spanish football team. They have managed to hog the headlines due to the lavish spending on new players. Other than that, they have managed to win the La Liga six times since 1994 and Champion’s league three times.

 

2. Barcelona

Coming at number two for Spain is Barcelona. At the moment, there is no lingering doubt that Barcelona is the best team in the world at the moment. At the just concluded world cup, the Spanish international team boasted of fielding 8 first team players, literally meaning that they carried the hopes and joy for Spain as a country. The have won the La Liga back to back eight time from 1991 to 1994, two times from 2005 to 2006 and two times from 2008 to 2009. In addition, they have also won the Champion’s League and Fifa World Cup.

 

3. Manchester United

Finishing the list for England and making an entrance is Manchester United Football Club. There is no doubt that Manchester FC is the best English team at the moment having won multiple silver wares across Europe. Since 1992, they have won the English Premier League ten times and the FA cup four times. Other domestic trophies won include league cup and community shield. They have won the Champion’s League twice as well as the Fifa World Cup.

 

4. Juventus

Making the list and increasing the number of teams in the list is Juventus. Despite the turbulence times that the team has gone through, it still is one of the most decorative teams in Europe. They have won the Serie A five times, Serie B after being relegated over match fixing and won the UEFA Champions League.

 

5. AC Milan

Adding the list of Italian clubs in the list is AC Milan. A great threat to Inter Milan in the race for Serie A Championship has also won numerous awards over the years. Notable of all silver wares that they have bagged is Champion’s League that they have won three times since 1993. Since 1991, they have won the Serie A six times.

 

6. Inter Milan

Internazionale Milano popularly known by the name sake Inter Milan have won numerous titles since 1991 the latest being the Fifa World Cup Club Football. They have won the Serie A four times, Copa Italia and Chamoions league.

The club also boasts of having the most players from the team participating in the international team.

 

7. Bayern Munich

Coming at number seven is Bayern Munich Football Club a German football team. Very few German teams have been decorated the way Bayer Munich FC has been having won been crowned the German champions a record of 8-times since 1991 and German Cup five times. In the big league, they have managed to win the international cup in 2001, the Champion’s league in 2001 and UEFA cup in 1996.

 

8. Arsenal

Adding the number of English teams in the top ten is Arsenal also known as gunners. They have managed to win the English Premier League four times during the 1990-1991, 1997-1998, 2001-2002 and 2003-2004 season. An extra feather to its cap, are five FA cups won in 92-93, 97-98, 01-03 and 04-05 seasons. They have also been a force to recon with in the champion’s league appearing twice in the semi-final.

 

9. Atletico River Plate

Coming at number nine is Atletico River Plate a team situated in Argentina. Notably one of the most popular team in its country given the silver wares bagged since 1991. They have won Torneo Apertura and Torneo Clasusura a record of 6 times. In addition, they have also managed to win Copa Libertadores and Supercopa a feat that most clubs in Argentina are yet to match.

 

10. Chelsea

Coming bottom on the list but definitely not the least is Chelsea football club commonly referred to as the ‘Blues’. They have managed to hog the headlines over the past 5 years since a take over by Abromovich, the club’s owner and an experience business entrepreneur. They won the English Premier League back to back in the seasons of 2004-3005 and 2005-2006 while under the guidance of the ‘chosen one’- Jose Mourino. They also managed to win the FA cup twice in 2000 and 2007. Other silver wares that the club has bagged include league cup that they have won twice and community shield.

    Bad list overall. It misses TRUE great clubs like Ajax, F.C. Porto and Liverpool and drops names of clubs who have poor history but lots of millions like Chelsea and clubs that never won the european Cup like Arsenal. It appears that today championships are won not in the field but in the bank acount.

    This list it’s pretty innacurate…
    River being 9th placed, while Boca Juniors has 18 international titles, 42 overall (3 more than River), and also a bigger number of fans.

    Yeah, I find this extremely inaccurate as well. Real Madrid are not by any means no.1. Barcelona are, by a long shot. Manchester United should at least be before Real Madrid and of course, a Brazilian team should be considered in the rankings. So Barça should be placed first and Man U at least second.
