Top 10 Lindsay Lohan Movies

1 2

Lindsay Lohan is a troubled star with a colourful past. One thing that has brought her success is her acting career. Here is a list of top 10 Lindsay Lohan movies. Feel free to comment if you agree or disagree.

1. Mean Girls (2004):

This was Lohan’s first movie independent from Disney. The film was successful and grossed at $129 million worldwide. It was seen by many critics, such as Roger Ebert, as the film which brought out Lohan’s breakout role.

2. The Parent Trap (1998):

Lindsay Lohan plays a dual role in this movie. At a summer camp in Maine, 11-year-old Hallie Parker (Lindsay Lohan) meets Annie James (also Lindsay Lohan). The two sisters discover that they are twins, who were separated after they were born. After their parents’ divorce, the father brought up Hallie, while the mother raised Annie. The twins set out to reunite heir family and their parents in this fun filled comedy. The only thing standing in their way is the father’s fiancé, Meredith.

3. Georgia Rule (2007):

This film really defines Lohan in real life. The character she plays is a troublemaker who is sent to live with her grandmother when the mother has had enough. Lohan does everything one can imagine in this film. She cheats lies and flirts to get through life. What merrily stops her is the advice her grandmother gives. The meaningful ending is meant to shock you. It was one of those cheesy movies you really wanted to watch without having to put much thought into it.

4. Freaky Friday (2003):

This film is based on a book of the same name written by Mary Rodgers. It stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as a mother/daughter duo. In the film the characters’ bodies are switched due to a magical Chinese fortune cookie. One can only imagine what happens when each characters walks in the other’s shoes.

5. Get a Clue (2002):

Here, Lohan plays a high school student investigating the disappearance of one of her teachers. The movie was shown on the Disney Channel. It is comedic and fun for the whole family. What can go right with a pampered girl who likes gossip?

Top 10 Deadly Activities That Are Perfectly Safe In Movies

1 2

Movies, and particularly the action genre features a plethora of situations in which the protagonist carelessly walks away unscathed from situations that should – by all accounts – end his/her life. In the real world, most of the scenes enacted by the hero of the story would have a completely different ending.

Now, you might think to yourself “It’s okay, it’s just a movie” and it is perfectly true that Hollywood productions would be quite boring without the unrealistic scenes. And, at the same time, if the film is not labeled “reality show” people are very unlikely to attempt to recreate the scenes in their backyard, thus getting seriously injured.

However, would it hurt the producers – and we’re not talking about the science fiction genre here – to make the movies a tad more credible by cutting out some of the following blunders? Let’s elaborate.

1. Jumping out of a ten story window and landing in dumpster safely

Jumping out of a ten story windowGarbage in all its majesty is very different in terms of consistency, but it will definitely not act like a trampoline or the firefighters’ safety net when you plummet into it from a high altitude. You will most likely see this stunt when the protagonist is completely surrounded by the villain’s minions and the only way out is through the skyscraper’s window and down into the street. Through a game of chance, a dumpster just happens to be underneath and it breaks his fall, allowing him to emerge unscarred, albeit smelling badly. Unfortunately, in real life, the neck and spine of the hero would snap like a twig on contact due to the high velocity.

2. All protagonists can hold their breath underwater indefinitely

hold breath underwaterThe current record for holding your breath underwater is 19 min, 12 seconds and it belongs to a Swiss free diver who trained for many years utilizing all sorts of gimmicks and tricks to subdue the brain’s natural instinct of breathing, including induced hyperventilation. You might argue that special services train agents are able to hold their breath, even up to the point of dying and that would probably be the only scenario where the protagonists unmatched breath holding skills are not ludicrous.

But not only does he not need air to live, he is also able to engage in heroic stunts that require loads of stamina and strength like saving all the secondary characters from certain death and pulling them to safety. So when you take into account that, on average, a regular person cannot hold his breath for more than 2 minutes, does that really make sense?

3. Your ammo clips never run out of bullets

ammo clipsIt’s like the hero entered the infinite ammo cheat code, as he relentlessly fires wave after wave of bullets at the bad guys and if he ever needs to reload, that’s just because the producers wanted to introduce a dramatic speech. Now if you consider that standard pistol clips hold about 10 bullets whereas the military versions have around 15, where did the other 200 rounds come from? Even extended ammo clips that are clearly visible won’t have in excess of 30 rounds!

4. The gun should always be discarded if the immediate dangers have passed

gun should always be discardedAfter all, we know that nothing bad will happen after the nearest threat has been eliminated, so what would you do with a gun anyhow? And guns grow on trees, right? You can just reach up and pick a full basket of semiautomatics at any given time. That would pretty much summarize why tossing away your pistol when (more like if) you finished the clip doesn’t make much sense. If the protagonist was an actual soldier and he discarded the weapon in the field after running out of ammo, he would’ve certainly been sent back there to retrieve it.

5. Dodging a burst of automatic bullets is a piece of cake

burst of automatic bulletsThe bad guys, no matter how many or how well equipped with automatic assault rifles, will never hit the hero. There’s 5 guys firing in bursts but the “invisible shield” of the protagonist magically deflects all bullets, while he’s taking them out one by one. This paradox was actually explained based on a study conducted on World War 1 soldiers. Apparently, they were missing the targets on purpose because instinctually they didn’t want to harm another human being. However, while those soldiers were basically civilians in uniform plunged in a war they did not fully understand or want to be part of, in action movies we’re talking about trained bad guys who kill people for a living. Also, they don’t seem to have a problem with hitting secondary/minor characters. Bottom line, you can’t dodge bullets in a firefight.

Top 10 Foreign Films To Help Improve Your Foreign Language Awareness

1 2

One of the more interesting ways to brush up on your foreign language skills is watching foreign films. Watching good films in a language you love is a great study aid alongside language training, and some of these films might inspire you to want to learn a new language.

So, grab the popcorn, get comfortable and enjoy this selection of films from around the world.

1.  Hard Boiled – Hong Kong, Cantonese, 1992

We start off with a good old fashioned action film direct by John Woo. Chow Yun Fat tales the lead as the impressively named Inspector “”Tequila” Yuen and spends a lot of the films running time shooting things in a cinematic manner, against the standard story of a cop on the edge taking down a criminal syndicate.

2.  City of God – Brazil, Portuguese, 2002

Sticking with the crime theme, City of God offers less style and more substance. City of God is based on a true story, and depicts the growth of organised crime in Rio De Janeiro through the end of the 60’s to the start of the 80’s. This unflinching movie is not an easy watch, but it’s rewarding, with fleshed out characters and a great story.

 3.  [Rec] – Spain, Spanish, 2007

It’s a horror movie, sure. But it’s one of the best horror films of the last decade, and possibly the best zombie flick I’ve ever seen. This is a found footage movie following a reporter and her cameraman as things go from bad to worse as she covers a story with the local fire department that takes her to a nearby apartment building at the start of a zombie outbreak.

4.  Pans Labyrinth – Mexico, Spanish, 2006

Pans Labyrinth is best described as a fairytale. The film is set in Spain in 1944, 5 short years after the Spanish Civil War. It may not sound like your standard fairytale, but Pan’s Labyrinth is the darkest fairytale to reach the silver screen. Watching the young heroine interacting with a variety of fantasy characters is equal parts creepy and beautiful.

5.  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – Sweden, Swedish, 2009

Sweden has a well-deserved history for incredible crime thrillers, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo doesn’t let the reputation down. A journalist and computer hacker team up to investigate a forty year old mystery. This is the start of a trilogy, and fans would be well advised to look up “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest”.

Top 10 Comedy Movies Featuring Zombies

1 2

Every movie enthusiast knows that the productions featuring zombies went practically dead and buried in the 1990s. Back then, the public became so oversaturated with the ideas of the films featuring zombies that they couldn’t be bothered to watch yet another horror movie with these creatures, ever again. Well, that didn’t take long and the living dead took the movie industry by storm once more in recent years.

Also, they became central characters in another type of productions; the comedies. We have to admit that zombies and comedies constitute a pretty interesting combination that hits the spot. Following is a top ten of the comedies featuring zombies that every “zomedy” fan should check out:

1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Featuring Simon Pegg, Shaun of the dead is the most representative movie of its genre, combining an incredible zombie carnage, a romantic story and the notorious British conversational wit. The story revolves around Shaun, the main character who decides to turn his life around by reconciling with his step father and winning back his ex-girlfriend, all with the help of his chubby friend. While Shaun tries to win back the most important women in his life, he also has to deal with the entire community of his small town who are now zombies.

2. FIDO (2007)

The plot of this “zom com” takes place in 1950′s in suburbia America; you know the period of the white fence houses, soldiers coming home from the war and the times when prejudice ruled the land. Isn’t that the perfect time to have a zombie servant? In order to avoid any spoiler, it suffices to say that FIDO is the hilarious and adventurous counterpart of classical movies featuring a boy and his best friend the dog).

3. American Zombie (2008)

While the movie could easily create the impression of a faux documentary at first glance, it is actually among the best zomedies ever released. The storyline revolves around the daily lives of a quiet community near Los Angeles. As you probably guessed, the zombie community can talk, act and think just like the people with whom they are trying to co-exist. Oh, do expect the whole eating human issue.

4. Creatures from the Pink Lagoon (2006)

Even though some felt offended by what they perceived as an insult to the gay community, the truth is that the story behind Creatures from the Pink Lagoon is actually well written. The plot starts with a group of friends who want to celebrate a birthday party at a secluded cottage. However, due to a “small” incident, their party is interrupted by an outbreak of zombies that come from a nearby restroom, which is frequented by gay people. You can imagine the dialogues and the actions.

5. Dead and Breakfast (2004)

As the name of the zomedy suggests, the story takes place at a bed and breakfast where a group of friends heading to a wedding decide to spend the night. However, they accidentally unleash some evil spirits that turn the entire town’s population into zombies. The strong cast and the ongoing musical narrations represent two of the strongest points of the movie.

Top 10 Most Memorable Evil Alien Species In Movies

1 2

If there is something to be learned from movies featuring aliens is that they always plan something and their plots do not exactly match the mankind’s “keep on living” schedule. While there are some series and films presenting aliens in a positive light, most of them bring out the idea that their sole purpose is to turn humans into slave laborers or that mankind is on top of their favorite dish list.

Oh, and let’s not forget that some of aliens view humans as nothing more than pests who need a quick squishing. Essentially, most aliens are just plain evil and humans have no chance of turning the odds through negotiation. Let’s explore the top 10 aliens that made us think twice about the possibility of getting along with them!

1. Xenomorphs

While most movie fans know them as the protagonists of the Alien series, they are in fact dubbed Xenomorphs. If you were to consider their physical and mental abilities, this amazing and feared alien species represents the ultimate life form. Organized similarly to an insect colony with a queen on top of their hierarchy, they impress with their agility, strength, hunting skills, their ability to survive almost anywhere as well as their fast learning capabilities. To bottom line is that they are absolutely flawless beings; if they discover a weakness their evolutionary skills helps them surpass it quite quickly.

2. Predators

Predators, the alien species from the movies with the same name, are actually very interesting creatures. While they are a highly advanced and noble race with top-notch technology, one of their favorite hobbies is still hunting other species. What is intriguing about Predators is that they do not attack unless the pray carries a weapon and they never hunt children.

3. Daleks

The Daleks are the arch nemesis of the main protagonist in the Doctor Who series and they are constantly trying to invade Earth. The Daleks are a very interesting race created by the evil scientist Davros who besides giving them impenetrable body armor, also eliminated all emotions they could feel, except of course, hatred. All in all, their agenda and overall behavior made many Doctor Who fans associate the Daleks with extremists and fanatics, both political and religious. Because the protagonist believed this race was extinct after the WWII, many fans consider they are a representation of the Nazi regime.

4. Symbiotes

The Symbiotes are an alien race we encountered in several Spider Man movies, although they are present in the Marvel Universe as well. To summarize, a Symbiote is what augmented Spider Man’s super powers. However, because the symbiotic alien also increased Peter Parker’s level of aggression, he decided to get rid of it. But the Symbiote is a highly adaptable race that soon after found two other hosts who are currently two of the greatest foes of Spider Man, namely Carnage and Venom.

5. Vogons

The Vogons are part of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and one of the best antagonists ever created. The main quarrel humankind has with the Vogons comes from the fact that this slug-like species wants to destroy Earth in order to create a galactic highway. On the other hand, it is necessary to mention that wanting to destroy our planet is nothing compared to their bureaucracy, aggressiveness and poetry (which is voted as one of the worst in the galaxy).

Top 10 Absurd Clichés In Action Movies

1 2

We can all agree that in order to actually enjoy an action movie, you need to accept the fact that all the characters represent particular archetypes and that the plot is based on the director’s personal representation of the script. Essentially, the easiest way to make the public understand the role of an actor implies utilizing clichés, because the spectators are already familiar with them from other motion pictures.

However, some of these clichés fringe on absurdity and it becomes even worse when you realize that their usage is absolutely vital to the plot of the movie. In the action genre – perhaps also in the romantic comedy category – these “formulas” are significantly more obvious and ridiculous. Let’s find out what they are.

1. A true badass never looks at explosions

If you threw a grenade over your shoulder at the gas pump, well, just to have it blow up in flames, would you look? Probably not, after all, you already know what’s going to happen, big explosion fire everywhere, blah blah, boring! If you see yourself in this description, that means you’re probably perfect for the protagonist – or antagonist, works both ways – of an action movie. The shear fact that the “badass” character does not even flinch when the roaring flames engulf the surroundings suggests that he is way too experienced to even glance at the results of his actions to give a damn. After all, which villian can go on for 5 minutes without blowing something up?

2. The villain insists on killing the protagonist by himself

Antagonists who seem to be pouring virtually unlimited funds in financing armies and constructing massive, state of the art doomsday devices have an obsessive compulsive need to go head to head with the protagonist, be it in a firefight or unarmed combat. If they don’t have a showdown, then the whole world domination/destruction plan was all in vain. Of course, they completely ignore the fact that their nemesis is highly trained and skilled, as opposed to them. A variant of this cliché presents the over-pumped, overconfident antagonist who could in fact squash his opponent like a bug. But what do you know, he doesn’t!

3. It’s over, he’s dead … or is he?

You notice that the hero empties two ammo clips in the chest of the antagonist, chops off his right hand, rolls him in a carpet, puts him in the trunk and drives the car off a cliff. By all accounts, the villain should be pushing up daisies, but there about 30-40 minutes of the movie left, how could that be? Oh right, skipping over the next 10 minutes, you find out that the antagonist wasn’t really dead, just furious. Don’t worry, the next time he gets killed is for real!

4. I’m getting too old for this

While there is nothing wrong with supporting the idea that not every old person is helpless, Hollywood directors insist on utilizing the elderly as main “badass” protagonists, only so they can have the “I’m getting too old for this” line. Now you’re not only rooting for the character because he is so hardcore, but also because the age represents the impediment he had to overcome in order to save the world/neighborhood/country/girl. At the same time, in this case age stands for experience in ass-kicking.

5. Mercy for the villain!

The protagonist shoots his way through the vast armies of the villain, gets into the classical firefight with him, the two empty ammo clip after ammo clip trying to kill each other, but when it comes down to the killing blow, he can’t do it. The scene is usually spiced up with the villains’ second attempt to kill the protagonist, which typically justifies the necessity of murder. After all, the main character is the good guy and he would never kill unless he was forced to.

Top 10 Must-See Literature Based Movies

1 2

Ìóâè 43 ñìîòðåòü îíëàéí â õîðîøåì êà÷åñòâå

While classic books have always made great movies, the recent trends in Hollywood leave many critics to wonder if the producers aren’t running out of ideas. However, the most probable explanation could be that people these days have very little patience when it comes to entertainment.

It may sound harsh, but the truth is that very few prefer spending two or three days reading a book when it is so simple to catch the basic idea from a two hours movie adaptation. While they can be viewed as a sign of intellectual laziness, some of these movies are really worth your time.

1. The Godfather trilogy

While Mario Puzzo 1969’s novel did not enjoy the same popularity, the movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola is considered one of the top ten best films of all times. The plot focuses around Vito Corleone – a mafia overlord – and his family. It features the outstanding performance of stars such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. It is sufficient to say that since its launch in 1972, the Godfather won three Academy Awards and maintains its second position among box office leaders.

2. To Kill a Mockingbird

Published in 1960, “To Kill a Mockingbird” was immediately recognized as a masterpiece of modern American literature. The action takes us back in a time of racial inequality and focuses on the tale of a white public defender Atticus Finch who has the courage to defend a black person who is arrested for undeserved charges. It is said that the humor and warmth of the storyline is the personal insight of Harper Lee who observed a similar event involving her family and neighbors when she was just 10 years old.

3. The Lord of the Rings trilogy

In 2001, director Peter Jackson decided to bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s world to life. And what a marvelous job he did! Considered one of the most ambitious movie projects of all times, the Lord of the Rings trilogy follows the story of a young hobbit who decided to leave the quiet life of The Shire and journeys with 8 companions to the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring (and consequentially the evil Dark Lord Sauron) once and for all.

4. Harry Potter

Since the release of the first novel in 1997, J.K. Rowling’s creations have gained an enormous popularity across the globe. It is necessary to mention that the novels and the movies have had their share of criticism from various religious groups who claimed that the author is initiating children in magic practices. However, the story featuring Harry Potter and his friends in various incredible situations at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry managed to surpass all expectations and it is currently one of the most known stories for children worldwide.

5. Donnie Brasco

If you are a fan of movies featuring mafia, then this Mike Newell movie is surely going to blow you off your feet. Featuring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, two prominent actors who ensure an impeccable performance, Donnie Brasco is a novel written by Richard Woodley and Joshep D. Pistone based on a true story. To summarize, the plot concentrates on an undercover FBI agent who manages to infiltrate the mafia only to discover that he has a lot in common with this underground world.
